Applications are now available for the 2021 W. Vernie Reed Memorial Scholarship.
A native Tacoman, Brother Reed began working as a hard-rock driller on the Grand Coulee Dam in 1934. He became a Laborer, and was elected to office at the Tacoma local in 1941. From there, he worked for the district council, eventually being asked to head the organizing department of Laborers International in 1960. Five years later he was elected general secretary-treasurer.
Through the generosity of Brother Reed’s friends and associates, yearly scholarships are available to assist eligible students in furthering their four year undergraduate education. The first was made in the spring of 1981.
